Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse backgrounds. A large portion of my school's population come from poverty-stricken homes; poverty is their everyday dark cloud. They are kids with hopes and dreams of making their lives better and bettering the future of their families. They deserve a chance to have hope. That hope begins by giving them a voice. They bring their suggestions to us and we listen. We do whatever it takes to help them find success in school and life.
It is our hope that their many successes in school translate into finding better lives for themselves and their families.
My Project
We all know how bad it is, especially in NYC. This project will continue the work of ensuring that hand hygiene is at the forefront of fighting COVID-19. I'm fortunate that my classroom is the library. We have four hygiene stations set up throughout the library. Each station has a large hand sanitizer, face tissues, and lotion. Students typically line up when entering the library to get a pump of hand sanitizer. Monitors often say to guests in the library, "Hand sani, and sign in." Students are very good at reminding one another to ensure proper hand hygiene.
The CDC's "recommendations reflect the important role of hand hygiene for preventing the transmission of pathogens in healthcare settings for a wide range of pathogens."
Our students are great at hand hygiene...with that said, hand sanitizer goes quickly! This project will continue the mission of helping students understand the important role hand hygiene plays in preventing the transmission of coronavirus.
Unfortunately, we lost members of our school community to coronavirus; and even more sad is that more will perish before we return to school. Please help keep our students and their families safe.
