As a teacher in a large and expanding school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to enrich my students' learning experiences by providing opportunities to connect Fine Arts with STEM related curriculum.
My students love to challenge themselves each day.
They are excited to explore the world of art and and highly interested in learning how to new skills can translate into multiple areas. They take pride in their efforts and are willing to challenge their minds for the sake of pushing the boundaries of what they can do.
My Project
Students will be using hands on applied book binding techniques to create their own custom made interactive journals. They will use these journals to take notes, store collaborative information, and practice learned art techniques. They will use this information to propose design solutions to artistic problems. By following this process, students will develop skills practiced by professional designers and engineers, and STEM related fields, in order to become more college and career ready.
This project will significantly help my students' understanding of the design cycle and scientific method.
They will see the concepts they learn connect to a final product and have an opportunity to build a personal connection to their work as they create it using real world practices. In the end, they will learn how to be problem-solvers, empowered to take the skills and knowledge in their class to improve their lives and those of people around them.
