This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are bright, academically curious, motivated twelfth graders, but not all of them enjoy the benefits of technology and financial stability at home. There is nothing more heartbreaking for me as an English teacher than having students who want to read our newest class novel but are not in a position to purchase their own copies. I wish I could "make it rain" books in my classroom.
My culturally diverse seniors deserve multicultural titles in their class library.
I thank you in advance for any support you can offer in helping me reach my wonderful students.
My Project
I have students in my senior AP Literature and Composition classes who regularly ask to check out books from our classroom library, although we have a wonderful media center in our school. With over twenty years of experience in the classroom, I have managed to accumulate a small, but impressive collection of classic and modern titles. Our school cannot accommodate every teacher's request for class sets of texts, so I am sometimes forced to ask students to purchase a novel or to volunteer to purchase a novel when our class sets have decreased.
Your contribution to our reading collection will enable AP students to effectively hold smaller, more meaningful book clubs, Socratic Seminar discussions, and writing workshops during the school year.
