This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our school is a charter school in Lake Worth, FL. I am teaching Digital Design, which is an 8th grade elective class. My students are bright and curious. They love to work and learn all about computer art animation. They deserve the opportunity to have the tools necessary to create their own designs.
My Project
At our charter school, our students' parents are struggling to put food on the table.
As a teacher at this school, especially a middle school teacher, I have many of the girls come ask me if I have an extra hair tie, bobby pins, scrunchies, etc.
My students, especially my girls, need these items and should be able to have them at the ready. I would like to add these specific items to the toiletry baskets I started creating for the student bathrooms. Teachers are students' parents at school-- especially in our Title I school-- and we may be the only parents they have. Girls will be able to use these hair elastics, scrunchies, and bobby pins to keep the hair out of their face and become more focused on the academics at hand. Any support to help the students at my school would be greatly appreciated.
