My students need Lakeshore Learning ESOL materials (reading activity center, speaking/listening center, writing tiles) for my limited and non-English speaking learners.
I work with a group of wonderful second-grade students. They are bright, eager to please, and ready to learn. We are, however, a Title I school. This means that 90% of the breakfasts and lunches served are free because we are in such a low-income area.
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and are on vastly different learning levels.
My goal is to create a learning environment that satisfies each student's needs. If I can give them every opportunity to do their best, I know they will succeed.
My Project
I have a class of 16 beautiful, intelligent students. Recently, I was blessed with two very special Spanish speaking students. One speaks English but cannot read it. The other does not speak or read English. While our journey is not easy, I am determined for them to succeed.
With only 12 weeks left I have my work cut out for me.
Thankfully Lakeshore learning offers some amazing resources to help. I am in desperate need of the Spanish to English listening station. I do not speak Spanish, having a listening station that can translate and build vocabulary is key. Working in small groups are the key to success for striving students. We will work together identifying our beginning sounds using the word building activity tin. The road to reading activity center is a great resource we can use to begin to foster independence. After teaching them how to match the letters to the words together, they will build the confidence to do this independently. Confidence is key when learning to read! Lastly, I am in need of a picture sequencing set. This set ties science and reading together. They will put the items in order; then, we will build simple sentences describing the sequence.
These skills are essential! Being in second grade, these students have an uphill battle. My goal is to prepare them as best I can by building vocabulary and phonics skills before they leave me for third grade. Any and all help is appreciated. Thanks.
