Help me give my students hands-on supplies such as watercolors and Play-Doh to practice making words. A nonfiction bee book and a matching bookmark will be used so we can practice reading together via Google Meet.
March 13, 2020, is a very unlucky day for the KinderBees! We found out at noon and had to start preparing packets and materials for 2 weeks to be sent home with the students at 2:00. It was like running a marathon! Had I known then that the building would be closed for the rest of the year, I would have sent home hands-on activities to help build their fine motor and their confidence.
Tapping and swiping are great technology skills; yet, six-year-olds need cutting, building, pinching, and writing to build their fine motor and problem-solving skills.
Currently, they have packets I have sent home, devices, and receive a daily Google Slide presentation which includes teacher videos, read aloud, and messages. While I would like to continue this method, I would also like to equip the students with hands-on materials, books, and something fun to cheer them up!
My Project
Learning from home NEEDS to be fun! Sitting in front of a screen all day is not only unhealthy but can be boring. My KinderBees need to have hands-on materials to keep their brains and bodies strong! As part of my online teaching, I am providing videos, songs, slide shows, and Seesaw activities to help solidify previously taught skills and help teach new skills. However, it can be difficult to assign hands-on tasks because not all homes have learning materials. These project materials will help even the playing field for all my 31 students!
"Using Play-Doh, make the -at word family words!" After students receive playdough and watercolors, I will be able to do the math, language arts, science, and writing lessons with the students using those materials.
Since we are the KinderBees, I thought our last theme could be all about bees and their life cycle. Therefore, I would like our students to all have the nonfiction bee book and, of course, a bee bookmark to boot! Then, during small group video conferencing, we can practice our reading and comprehension skills together!
