I would still consider myself to be a fairly new teacher after 3 years. I am always incorporating new, fun ideas that I come up with on my own or ideas I’ve received from someone on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram. I love to reach my students where they are. Sometimes learning, may not always be “fun” for my students, so I really try to incorporate more exciting activities into the lesson. I also make sure that I am enthusiastic in my voice and body movements, while I am teaching. Especially if it is a “boring” topic. Additionally, it is always a goal of mine to connect their learning to their everyday life and the world around them. It is important to me to connect with my students during the teaching and learning process.
I am now in my 4th year of teaching and I truly feel like a sponge. I can spend hours on the computer, searching and learning about fun activities, procedures, incentives and ideas for my 4th graders. I communicate with other teachers in various Facebook groups, on Twitter and Instagram. I even created an Instagram and Twitter account specifically for teaching/education. I am always excited and empowered to bring what I’ve learned, back to my classroom. I went through a STEM training last year that really allowed me to effectively integrate STEM conversations and activities into my classroom. I feel closer to being a distinguished teacher, with every professional development I have completed.
