Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are very dedicated to their craft. I see them strive to comprehend the music and the style on a daily basis. What I love the most about my students is that they are slowly finding a way to express themselves with music. I see them come in shyly at the beginning of the year, and when the first-quarter passes, I see vibrant and confident performers.
We are regularly invited to perform at community events.
I am usually more nervous than they are. When the time comes, out they go with full confidence as they proudly perform with no visible jitters and a resolution that any instructor and teacher could be proud of.
My Project
Having unique traditional instruments on hand in our mariachi music class will help teach the students first hand how to perform and perfect their craft on vihuela and guitarron. Each instrument selected for purchase insures that the very basics of the mariachi tradition are covered.
Having vihuelas and guitarrons available to our students to check out have a huge impact on their sense of community and tradition.
Our city and school district have a long-held Mariachi tradition. With these instruments, we can ensure that this tradition stays alive within our school and community.
When students are able to take their instrument home to practice, it enables them to learn the value of responsibility, respect, and reliability. Commonly referred to as the Three R's throughout our community.
