Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and amazing kids from the south side of Chicago. Most of the kids I teach are faced with challenges in their lives, both at home and at school. As their music teacher, I hope to help my students by encouraging them to express themselves in positive ways.
My students love music class because they get a chance to share a creative experience with their peers.
Our school is run on a bare bones budget, and funding for the arts is just not there. Your donation would help to provide a quality musical experience for deserving students.
My Project
Our school has started offering electives to 7th and 8th graders, and one of the choices is guitar class. Interest in the guitar program has been overwhelming, and we need supplies.
We need guitar strings, capos and straps so my students can have the best class guitar experience ever.
When guitars are played every single day, strings break. We could use some sets of strings to have on hand, so the guitars can be restrung quickly and efficiently.
Often a student comes to me wanting to learn a song, but upon listening to it, the song is in a key that is too difficult for them to play in. They then become discouraged. Capos change the key of the guitar, and make it easier to play. Having a few capos on hand would help my students learn to play the songs they want, and teach them to become independent learners on their instruments.
Straps allow the students to stand while they play, which becomes very important when it is time for performances.
As you can see, these basic guitar items would make a world of difference to the kids in my guitar program. Thank you for your support.
