I teach in an inner city public school which houses a program for Autistic Impaired Learners. We have a diverse population of students with various Autism Spectrum disorders. My classroom consists of 20 children. All my students are the most kind and hard working you will ever meet. Watching how all students accept one another for their unique and beautiful differences is truly amazing. They make me proud to be their teacher and come in everyday to help them grow socially and academically.
My Project
Guided reading is an instructional approach that involves a teacher working with a small group of readers who are reading at the same level. During the lesson, the teacher provides each student with their own copy of the same text that they are able to read with support. The teacher coaches the learners as they use before, during and after reading problem-solving strategies to read the text. The ultimate goal is independent reading.
I am requesting multiple sets of leveled reading books that will meet the needs of my students.
The Little Leveled Readers: Box Set: Just the Right Level to Help Young Readers Soar! is a step-by-step, book-by-book program that guides children through the early stages of reading and contains 75 storybooks (5 copies of 15 titles). Each set comes with a teaching guide to assist me in lesson planning. The Guided Science Readers Super Set: Seasons: A BIG Collection of High-Interest Leveled Books for Guided Reading Groups teaches reading and science simultaneously with sets of exciting books that correlate with guided reading levels A–D. The Guided Science Readers Parent Pack: Levels E-F: 12 Fun Nonfiction Books That Are Just Right for New Readers are 16 page books with coordinating photographs about favorite science topics like horses, bears, birds, sloths, tigers, honeybees and chameleons.
Being able to observe my students as they read from texts at their instructional reading levels will allow me to reinforce specific strategies, encourage reading success, and will give my students numerous opportunities to practice new skills and apply them independently.
