I teach 4th Grade in New Bern, North Carolina in a Title I school. My students come to me from all walks of life. Fourth grade is by far my favorite grade to teach. Students are starting to find their independence but still need a fair amount of guidance at times.
I strive to make our classroom a place where any child can walk in and be excited for what they will learn that day!
My students love hands-on learning and group work. They love moving around the classroom to different areas and working with each other on collaborative projects or problems.
My Project
These guided reading materials will impact all students in my class. Students work in small, leveled groups daily to increase their fluency, comprehension and vocabulary skills. These Guided Reading materials will allow students to read high-interest texts while at the same time growing their reading skills.
Guided reading is essential for meeting the needs of each student.
Not all students are on the same reading level as their peers, guided reading time allows me to work with 4-6 students who are all on the same level or need help on the same skill. The materials I am asking for will greatly help to close these gaps. My students love reading nonfiction and these materials will give them more high-interest nonfiction texts to choose from.
One part of comprehension is being able to discuss the texts you have read. The "Accountable Talk Discussion Starters" will help students learn how to discuss the texts they are reading as well as appropriate responses. I can't wait to hear the discussions that happen!
