Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a fourth grade teacher at P.S. 345 in East New York, Brooklyn. At our school, about ninety-eight percent of our students receive free lunch. We are a school that has many eager students, but few resources to support their needs. A few years ago, our school implemented a balanced approach to literacy. One of the components in the program is guided reading. However, we have few resources for the upper level reading groups. Scholastic offers materials that build comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency at all levels. With the Scholastic Guided Reading Nonfiction Focused Program (Level P), I will be able to work with small groups at levels that challenge success. It would foster purposeful instruction that will bring students to the next level of comprehension. The literary titles included in this program support the curriculum of the fourth grade. With your help, my students will become better prepared for the New York State Reading Test, more confident in their comprehension skills, and more fluent in their reading. Thank you in advance for your time and generosity towards New York City Public School Children.
