Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My teaching partner and I have 34 students in our collaborative classroom. We teach in a culturally diverse, Title I school. Many of our students live at or below the poverty line. All of the students at our school receive breakfast and lunch at no cost.

Our students have many needs and my teaching partner and I work together daily to provide the best opportunities for all of our students.

We are so excited to watch our students learn and grow this year!

My Project

We chose a lot of Biscuit and Pete the Cat books because our students love to read Biscuit and Pete the Cat books during Guided Reading time. We also chose books with a variety of topics like dinosaurs, dogs, llamas, gymnastics, pumpkins, harvest time, and even books about losing teeth, to ensure that all of our students would find a book that interests them. When students are interested in what they are reading, it makes them more eager to read, and greatly improves their comprehension. Our goal is to cultivate a lifelong love of reading in our 1st grade students.
