Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are the reason I became a teacher. They make me proud every day with all that they achieve. They are eager to learn but struggle with reading. My students are fourth graders but many of them are at least two grade levels behind in reading. I feel that the more comfortable my students are the more motivated they will be to engage in reading. I believe that they are all capable of great things and have something wonderful to contribute to my classroom and school.
My school has a majority of low-income students.
While these are amazing kids their parents struggle to provide some of the basic necessities that the students need.
My Project
These books will allow the students to have a variety of books at their level. They will be able to interact with interesting topics that are more current than what we have available to them now. These books will also be able to provide me with a way to help the students bridge the gap in their reading levels.
These books will be engaging to my students, which will help foster a love of reading.
This will also help when they have to read independently and hopefully increase their love of reading as they develop better reading strategies from the guided reading group.
