As a teacher in a Title one school, many of my students are faced with several challenge. I have had homeless families, parents in and out of jail. I also have students with physical handicaps and children with autism in the classroom. My class this year is highly impacted with learning disabilities as well as social emotional needs. I am looking to make a warm positive environment where my students can feel comfortable and safe. I want to have a classroom where they want to be there.
Many of my students are in survival mode.
I need help to make a difference. I am concentrating on flexible seating where students can make a choice and be trusted. Many of our kiddos choice has been taken away from them in their home life. They need to have the power given back to them for optimal learning to happen.
My Project
This table can help me teach guided reading with efficiency, in the class. Every child works on a different reading level and to be able to hear each child is difficult with a rectangle, a horseshoe table would be very helpful. I want to be more efficient and with a purpose. I could really use the help, I have worked very hard this year in professional development toward guided reading. This table will allow me better access to the kiddos to teach in a small group. There is a lot of good learning happening in small group work and very individualized.
