The 28 multicultural children who I spend most of my day with are extremely hard working and come to school each day to do their absolute best. Although our classroom has the bare minimum in terms of supplies and equipment, my students make the best out of so little. It makes me feel extremely privileged to be their teacher. The children have also formed a bond with each other that goes beyond the walls of the classroom. They are very helpful to each other and the first ones to finish an assignment are also the first ones to want to help their classmates.
My students are also a very "giving" group.
Although most of their families do not have funds to spare, the children recently emptied their own piggy banks to help raise money for little boys and girls with cancer.
Guided Reading takes place everyday in my classroom. The struggling readers have a chance to spend time with their teacher in order to work on their deficits in phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. These children need a place to come and sit with me that will provide them space where they feel comfortable and understand that making mistakes are opportunities to learn. These tables are shaped in a way where the teacher can sit and see all the students, and they can all see each other. My students really need a table like this so they can feel comfortable, and understand that this area is for them to improve on their Reading skills!!
