it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Just the same, no two readers are at the exact same point in learning to read. Having books available at different levels is critical for proper instruction.
My kiddos are a hard working group, who are eager to become better readers.
These students show up on time every day with smiles on their faces. For many, school is the only stable factor in their lives. Several of my students worry about where their next meal will come from, or where they will lay their head at night. Whenever we receive a package from Donors Choose, my students light up. They are not used to brand new things, let alone things donated to our classroom by "strangers".
My Project
Reading groups are a challenge, because I don't currently have many copies of the books we use. Our school's book room contains random sets from the early 1990's, but many sets are damaged or only have one or two copies. By putting these new books in my students' hands, they will be even more excited to learn to read. They will share their excitement with their parents when they take their books home, which will lead to more reading practice. Overall, I am hopeful that these Leveled books (B and C) will push my students to read at or above grade-level standards!
Many of my students come in to first grade with minimal sight word knowledge.
Those who were reading during kindergarten come in with a regression in their abilities because they don't read regularly over summer vacation. These books will encourage my students to read all year long and make the gains in reading that I know they are capable of making!
