Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My current students are struggling readers. They can tell me all about their favorite games and television shows but they rarely talk about a good book that they have read back-to-back. A good book will help them improve their reading skills and help them become avid readers.
My fifth graders attend a public school and all receive free lunch.
They come from mixed backgrounds but have a strong desire to learn and succeed. They are incredibly friendly, creative, funny, and have a strong awareness of the world around them. Once my students enter the school, they know that they are being prepared for the real world. They only need the tools to spread their wings. Books are the tools students need to succeed.
My Project
My purpose for creating this project is to receive various leveled books that I can use in my classroom for guided reading. Each book can be used to teach my students different skills and strategies in small groups. I will be able to use the books to teach author's purpose, symbolism, points of view, author's craft, vocabulary, and connections to personal values and choices. The books are also appropriate for the age and level of my readers, making them key components to creating a successful guided reading program.
The books that I am asking for will be used during guided reading to help my students become good readers.
They will be working in small groups, reading the same books, sharing ideas and questions while learning reading strategies that will be embedded in them and prepare them for future grades and the real world. My students will enjoy reading! Thank you in advance for your generous donations.
