My Students
My students are eager, self driven kids that give it their all, everyday.
Nearly 80% of my students come from low-income newcomer families.
Our students live in small one room apartments where having their own library at home is not possible. Books are hard to access and we want to make it easily accessible for them. They need a chance at read often so that they can achieve beyond what their parents work so hard for. Our students are their families' hopes and dreams. We do not receive funding for a literacy program nor for books, but our students are in need of literacy intervention to succeed in school.
My Project
Our readers don't just read the text, they also understand their reading. Your donation will make our literacy program the ticket to a child's success. With skillful implementation and regular instruction, each child who has access to these books will become strong readers.
Our children take on that challenge every day with enthusiasm and a smile.
Students are fully engaged the entire time. 5 days a week, 8 times a day, I pull groups. Students in my program have a big job: to excel at reading at least by one or more grade levels in a short amount of time. They will merge word building skills with reading strategies to become fluent readers. We are building smart, successful readers who read for meaning that will help to bring success in all subject areas.
