"So it is with children who learn to read fluently and well: They begin to take flight into whole new worlds as effortlessly and young birds take to the sky."-- William James
In my classroom, my students and I have become a family of learners who work together each day to learn as much as we possibly can.
This is my first year teaching, and I have a lot of enthusiasm to teach and help my students learn, but I lack some of the resources I need for my students. Our school is a low-income school where 100% of our students have free/reduced-price lunch. My students come from many different backgrounds and families. Despite what my students face outside of the classroom, they are welcomed into our learning community as equals. I have worked with my students for 6 months now, in these 6 months I have seen their passion for learning and they have also taught me things. Each day my students are excited to get into reading groups and read new books and learn new words. It is my job, as their teacher, to provide a fun, positive, and resourceful learning environment for my students. By contributing to this project you are helping me do this.
My students and I need leveled books for guided reading and independent reading. These three sets of books will help me teach my students to read and provide new material for the students to read on their own. By the end of kindergarten students are expected to be reading on a independent level 6 and an instructional level 8. I lack the reading material in the classroom to help them achieve this goal. We also have read most of the leveled text in the classroom already. These text would provide my students with new interesting reading material and would help them move to the next reading level. First Little Readers help students read by providing them with age appropriate text and stories that are interesting to students. The books provided in these book sets help students gradually move up in reading levels. Students would read these books with me during guided reading, and then would read them independently during read to self time.
Donations to this project would help my students and I receive the necessary materials to further their reading levels.
It would also provide my students with new reading material that is interesting to them. These books are interesting and engaging and would allow my students to be excited to read. My students and I are thankful for your support and your donations.
