Every morning, when my students walk through the door, they retrieve a book from our classroom library and begin to read.
My students are explorers, bakers, sports players, artists, teachers, astronauts, musicians, and cosmetologists.
Most of all, they are learners.
Aren't we all? We all learn to be who we are through literature. Our school doesn't put a higher emphasis on any one subject, but we integrate reading into all of them. Our community supports individual students' education through events such as STEM Night and Literacy Night. Parents are involved in the learning process through these events and volunteer opportunities. We have the best families and instructional support at our school.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting will allow students to retrieve a book that they are able to read independently. There is no prouder moment in a student's day than when they read an entire book by themselves. I love to see that smile on their faces at that moment. Leveled guided reading books are what my students need to bring that smile to their faces. My students need independent reader books that are on their reading level like The Pond, Water, Wood, Colors, Machines at Work, and Warm Clothes.
Most of my students do not have a home library of books that are on their guided reading level.
Unfortunately, our classroom library consists of books above their levels as well, as most of them are meant for whole group instruction. Supplying a small library of leveled reader books will give students the independence that they need to fall in love with reading.
