This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We love Reading!!! My students enjoy spending time reading in many different ways. They like to read with the teacher, read with a friend, and read alone in a comfy chair.

My school is located in a high poverty area where most of families speak a language other than English.

Many of my student do not have access to books at home. When they come to school they love getting the opportunity to look through my classroom library.

My Project

We will use these books from First Little Readers - Complete Library, and Let's Find Out: My Rebus Readers (Multiple Copy Set) in our guided reading groups. Each group will be able to have books at their independent reading level. The books in these sets are very colorful and have topics that will interest all of my students. When students can practice reading skills at their own level in a small group with the teacher they have the chance to become fluent and independent readers!

Right now we are using black and white paper books and books from old reading series that are falling apart for our guided reading groups.

My students deserve the chance to use books that are colorful and have a mix of fiction and non-fiction stories.
