Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My K-5 school located on the north-west side of Indianapolis. It is at the hub of learning and exploration. We as teachers are always trying new and invented ways to teach these students by adding nontraditional ways to get them motivated to learn. Our students come to us from various different backgrounds. Some speak little to no English, some are living with grandparents, and some are wondering when their next warm meal will be. They have so many things going on in their lives that life at school can be difficult. These students don't always learn the traditional way and a lot of times need that extra boost.

My Project

My students rotate reading groups daily. Some groups have up to 6 students. Our reading group table is small and 6 chairs don’t fit comfortably around the table. I want my students to feel comfortable and cozy when coming to guided reading groups. With the 18 inch wiggle chairs they can fit comfortably around the table and feel like a part of the group. They can have the space they need and can focus on small group attentively. Groups can transition quickly because we won’t be finding chairs to squeeze in and constantly adjusting seats. These wiggle chairs can be set up and ready to accommodated one to six students in a flash.
