My students need vocabulary cards, fluency cards, timers, and informational text graphic organizers.

"Reading gives us somewhere to go when we have to stay where we are." My classroom is a place where my students can come and know they are safe and loved. For many of them, the school day is their escape from the unfriendly and poverty-stricken world around them. The ability to read is invaluable!
My students are often times presented with problems and situations that they are too young to have to face.
School is their outlet. When they struggle in school, it becomes just another things that they see as holding them back. My school is filled with children who love to learn and come to school knowing that they are cared for within our walls. Reading comprehension and basic vocabulary skills are probably the two biggest deficits that our students face. Without these skills, the challenges that they will face will continue to grow. To be college and career ready, my students need to be armed with a skill set that will allow them to communicate with others and understand when they are asked to read a text, listen to a conversation, or participate in any type of academic or professional conversation.
My students are going to use these resources at their Guided Reading learning stations. Each day, they will be able to work on specific skill sets, depending on where they are individually. During our Guided Reading time, I will be able to work with a reading group on achieving their goals while the rest of the class works at learning stations, selected to fit their needs, to deepen their understanding and knowledge of reading comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, and informational text concepts. We need vocabulary cards, fluency cards, timers, and informational text graphic organizers for learning stations. These learning stations will be set up for daily use and will be used to not only improve test scores, but more importantly will improve the quality of education and learning for my students by giving them practice where they specifically need it. I will be able to monitor student progress through recording sheets and conferencing. I am looking forward to seeing the engagement level increase and student achievement increase through the use of these new materials and resources!
Donations to this project will help to give my students the tools they need to work on, and master, specific ELA skills.
We have a large number of students that read 3 or more grade levels below where they should be and having these materials will give each student access to materials at their level, while pushing them to reach grade-level mastery. Additionally, donations to this project will not stop with just one class. These are all reusable resources and will benefit students for years.
