This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember 3rd grade? Was it a good year for you? Do you remember your teacher? Do you remember what you learned? As a teacher who remembers disliking 3rd grade, I vow to do better for my students!
My students are energetic and eager to learn and proud to be a part of our classroom community.
However, many of them are really feeling the stress and anxiety that 3rd grade can bring. The material gets increasingly difficult, they take benchmarks and state tests for the first time, and they are still trying to find out who they are.
My students are learners, explorers, friends, authors, leaders, and readers. They are so many things but still need so much to be successful!
My Project
There are so many books available for students that are reading at or above grade level. However, most of my students are struggling readers. The book selection for my small groups is extremely limited, causing struggling readers to read the same books over and over. They get bored and get disenchanted with reading altogether.
Often when I pull students into small groups, the struggling readers see this as their time to shine and be successful without all of the pressuring eyes watching them!
I'm hoping that these new book sets will offer my struggling readers some different books to read to interest them and build their excitement up.
These books will be used daily with students who deserve the best!
