Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at a Title 1 school that is in a very high poverty demographic. In my classroom I have students that are English language learners and have not been exposed to much in the areas of science and mathematics. I also have several students that are below grade level learners that require kinesthetic activities to help them acquire the knowledge they need to move to the next grade level.
I also have students that live in a shelter and have experienced homelessness and familial trauma.
Many of my students do not have the opportunity to experience technology at home and rely on the classroom to acquire 21st century skills.
My Project
I want to help my students become life-long readers. The best way to do this is by having books that are easily accessible to them that are age appropriate, challenging, and engaging. By using books that are on their level that students can use their skills and learn new skills.
This project includes sets of guided reading books, so that use in a guided reading setting with multiple kids at one time.
These books will be a great addition to small group reading, as they will keep my students engaged. The books will help with building comprehension skills, reading fluency and accuracy, and vocabulary skills.
