My Students

When reading is a significant challenge to kids, high interest books open the secret door.

I work in an urban, public school.

I teach a group of active second and third graders who are excited about learning. Many of my students face significant learning challenges. I have students who face the challenge of dyslexia, ADHD, autism, visual tracking issues, and other learning disabilities.

My Project

In order to meet the learning needs in my classroom, I will use these materials to run guided reading groups. These groups will be at the just right level for each student in my class. By having five of each book kids will be able to support each other as they learn to read. Books can be shared with other classrooms and used year after year. The gift of books is a gift that keeps on giving.

Opening the door into the world of reading is one of the best gifts that can be given to young children.

Student lives will be changed for the better as they gain confidence as readers.
