I teach 6th grade English in WI. Many of my students are coming to middle school not reading or writing at grade level. By using Compass Learning and Google Classroom it's my goal to have my students reading and writing at grade level by the end of the year.
My students will be coming to middle school for the first time this year.
They are used to a guided learning setting, meeting their needs at an individual level. They will need to spend time on Compass Learning to bring them up to grade level, and I need them using Google Classroom in order to further their 21st Century learning skills. WMS is at approximately 75% free and reduced-price lunch, meaning many of my students don't have the technology they need at home to complete their school work. We have a dedicated staff and students who believe that "Academic Excellence is our Goal."
My Project
My students need 2 HP Chromebooks. I will be rotating students through a workshop model in the classroom. This means some students will work with the teacher and others will be working independently on reading or computers. Having extra computers in the classroom ensures that all my students will have a chance to learn at their individualized levels.
By using Compass Learning with fidelity, students will increase their MAPs scores, bringing them closer to learning at the 6th grade level.
Also, by being able to use Google Classroom, students will further be practicing their 21st Century learning skills, preparing them for high school and beyond.
