Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every child can learn. You just have to find the best way to engage and inspire them. My students are truly amazing because they are thoughtful, creative, and inquisitive. They love to ask questions, touch, and explore the world around them. They understand that learning is all about trying your best and that mistakes are ok because that is how we learn.
Our school population is made up of 80% English Language Learners, and we are a Title I school.
Our school has a lot of heart, and we are proud to be teaching future leaders. The best thing about being a teacher at my school is our students. Their love of learning and how they treat each other are truly the heart of our school.
My Project
Our class is working hard to learn reading skills to help us become strong readers.
In order to read we need books that are at our students' instructional level.
Books like About Penguins, About Hammerheads, and Baby Monster Can't Sleep are not only at our level but are high-interest books due to the vibrant pictures.
These books will be used during small group instruction. Once we have practiced these books in small group the students will put them in their individual book bags where they will practice reading daily with a buddy. These books will then be passed on to another reading group and so on. These books help us learn/practice sight words, use contexts to figure out new words, and are kid-friendly.
