My students are excited to learn! They come to school each day ready to work and are very curious about the world. They enjoy working with partners and completing task their require thinking and hands-on learning.
My students dream BIG!
Although some of the students struggle with literacy, they continue to persevere through their difficulties. They enjoy reading fictional stories that are apart of series and stories with suspenseful plots. They also enjoy reading nonfiction text to learn new ideas about politics, animals, health, and science. One student in particular wanted to be a scientist after reading a text about Jane Goodall. These are the everyday moments I encounter with my students through reading meaningful text.
My Project
Books provide us with a variety of knowledge on every topic! These books will be used to model how to effectively read and comprehend a selection. Students will learn new vocabulary increasing their word recognition ability. Students can use these vocabulary words in their speaking and writing ultimately enhancing their communication. Lastly, students will have the ability to make meaning from the text and have a purpose for reading incorporating their experiences and knowledge to make sense of the text.
Additional books in our class would give my students new ideas to think about.
By allowing students to bring these books home, students can share in a reading experience with their families, which will form bonds through making connections. Books strengthen our self-confidence and help us learn where we want to go in life.
As a school we are trying to move towards making Balanced Literacy an integral part of our core instruction, and we are seeking more books to best support its implementation. I intend for these books to allow me to better support the mission, vision, and strategic goals set forth nationally by the new common core standards. My goal is to provide a platform for helping all students within my influence to excel and develop their full potential in literacy.
