My students need these new leveled readers to align our lessons to the new standards.
My students are always eager for me to listen to them read aloud. I love that they are so excited to read so I want to make the most of their reading time with me.
I have 29 students that attend a low income school in Illinois.
They live in a low income neighborhood. Their parents often work two jobs and are unable to fill their homes with books. These parents are often unable to read in English if they are able to read at all. It is very important for me to be able to fill our classroom with the text rich experiences that they are supposed to receive as home as well as the experiences they are receiving in my classroom.
My school does not have a book room to help me keep my guided reading lessons aligned to the new common core state standards. The resources that I am requesting will help me teach my students lessons that are engaging but that also challenge my students. The books that we currently use during our guided reading time were published ten years ago, and are more of a one size fits all type of text. Our current books are not tailored to fit the needs of my students. These kits are specific to the level in which the kids are currently reading.
Your contributions to my project will help my students progress through each reading level at an appropriate pace because they will be reading books that are at their level and that make them want to keep reading!
