My students need assorted materials, including GT resource books, spinners, a bookcase, a web camera and wireless speakers, to help improve the GT program in our school.
Do not let our wonderful minds go to waste! Our school started with implementing a new format for our GT program. While advanced academics is provided, we also need to develop their creative thinking skills. I hope by purchasing these materials we can start making a step in the right direction.
Our GT students are wonderful kids who take their academics very seriously.
While that is also an important part of our school's mission, we also want to expand our GT program to help them develop their other innate characteristics, such as creativity and abstract thinking. These students have not always had the opportunity to do more in-depth projects they so crave to do. They have enjoyed the independent projects they started working on this year during their pull-out time.
My Project
To achieve that goal, teachers need to receive more training and support to help our students achieve their potential. We have little to no resources currently in our school specifically geared towards developing more engaging projects for our GT students. I am therefore requesting books that will help support the teachers on how to work with gifted students and also books on having special activities geared towards GT kids.
In addition, I am asking for spinners that can be distributed in the regular classrooms to create extended or higher thinking activities for the GT students as well as being used during their pull-out time with me. I am also requesting headphone splitters and a web camera so that the students can work collaboratively on projects. In addition, I've added some other technology items so that I can bring my personal iPad into the classroom for student use. A book shelf among some other organizational items will help create a special resource area for the GT students.
I believe that with this project, the GT program will be off to a better start in the new school year to provide our GT students a curriculum that will not only encourage high academics standards, but also enable them to go more in depth into areas of their choosing and develop their minds to reach their full potential.
It is time to increase the potential of these students so that they can become our future leaders, scientists and inventors!
