Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach students who are acquiring English as a second language. What did she say? Through special funding, all ELL Students in grades 3-5these are provided the opportunity to participate in free tutoring sessions after school for Reading and Math. These tutoring classes assist them in meeting grade level standards and help prepare them for the State of Florida Standardized Assessment that they participate in during the months of March and April. School begins at 8:35am everyday and the last lunch scheduled is at 12:00pm.
The afterschool tutoring begins at 3:20 pm and these children are hungry and need a snack to help them renew their energy and be focused.
We provide tutoring for 100 students 2 times a week (Monday and Thursday) for the 14 weeks prior to the State Assessment. That is 2800 snacks we would need to help support this program and continue its success.
My Project
These snacks would be distributed to the students participating in the after school tutoring at 3:05 pm and tutoring is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm. This allow sufficient time for them to have a light snack before they begin their tutoring in Reading or Math for the afternoon.
These healthy snacks will help the students fuel their minds and be more focused in the material being presented and taught.
Students will not be distracted by the grumbling noises of their tummies and allow them to re-energize to concentrate better and learn better. This will also help them understand how important these classes are for them if we help them be prepared.
