Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from diverse backgrounds. Many of these students have no preschool experience and some of them are learning to speak English. Many of their parents do not speak English and want to help them but find it hard to do so. My school works with the parents and the students. We participate in APTT which is Academic Parent Teacher Teams to help parents help their students at home by teaching them activities to help them learn basic literacy and math skills. Parents receive manipulatives and materials to take home which are purchased by our Title I school. Most of our students are on Free and/or Reduced-price lunch.
My goal as a advocate for these students is to create a love of life long learning and life long readers.
I am passionate about showing these students that education is the key to becoming a successful member of society either through Vocational education or a College education.
It is important to me that my students learn that what they think impacts what they become. I want them to know that they can do hard things.
My Project
These books will make a difference in my students learning and improve their lives, if they can say..."I can do this" instead of "I cant" or "I can't do this yet but I am going to keep trying". My students love to be read to and most of our parents are working at night or working two jobs and don't have the time to read to their child. Research shows reading to a child helps their language development which these students need. Some of these students come to me speaking no English. Reading to them can help them master the language.
