Our elementary school is a diverse school-wide Title I school of about 300 Kindergarten through fifth-grade students, including two self-contained special education classrooms. Over 72% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Our students receive Title I, special education, high ability, and academic intervention services. We are achieving great growth through our Tier 2 and 3 small group instruction. I would like to expand their minds even more in the library. As a school, we have been working to grow our students' growth mindsets.
My Project
I would like to add books to my school's library that help guide children into conversations about growth mindset. The books that I have chosen are from a list of recommended read-aloud books that are perfect for teaching growth mindset. It is very important for children to dream big and to know that they can build on their basic abilities with persistence, hard work, and dedication. I can encourage growth mindset by not only reading these read-alouds to the students but also allowing the students to check out these books to read themselves. Along with all of the other teachers and staff in my school, I would like to do my part to teach the students that if they believe, they can achieve.
