I teach a creative and talented group of fourth graders. My students vary in learning levels, race, behaviors, and socioeconomic status. One thing they all have in common is that they are faced challenges everyday that they need to overcome.
One of the most difficult things to teach a child is how to persevere through challenges.
By teaching my students to have a growth mindset instead of a fixed mindset, they learn to become problem-solvers. These kids learn that they can achieve anything with effort and the right strategies.
My Project
In addition to the core subject we teach kids everyday, we work to integrate problem-solving skills, thinking outside the box, and how to persevere through challenges. These critical reasoning games will allow students of all levels to increase their critical thinking and quantitative reasoning.
By helping our children to have a growth mindset they learn that mistakes lead to development, and they learn that they can overcome failure and grow.
ThreeSticks and its expansion pack will integrate geometry concepts into problem-solving. Gravity Maze, Shape Logic, Rush Hour, Cat Logic, and Chocolate Fix require logic, flexible thinking, and trial-and-error. The other games requested (Math-Fact-Oh, Math Stacks, Swish, and Color Cubed) will integrate math concepts to help students develop critical thinking skills that will carry through their whole life. Having a growth mindset is something that all children should have, and these games will help to make sure this happens.
