This 2018-2019 school year will be my first year teaching. Previously I was a paraprofessional for a fourth grade classroom that I fell in love with. I applied for a fourth grade position at a neighboring school and landed the job of my dreams. I will be teaching in a school where 80% of the community is of lower income. The average class size is 28 fabulous, creative, and ambitious students. One goal I have for my students is to create an environment where they can not only feel at home, but also a place to create, construct and compile their ideas.
Einstein once said, "It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." Although I have not met my students, I cannot wait to see the capabilities and ideas they will share with one another.
I know that my students will benefit from hands-on projects and collaborating with one another. I am so excited to meet my explorers and inventors in this upcoming school year.
My Project
I will utilize the materials I have included in the classroom community Maker Space where students can design, build, and engineer their ideas. I plan on implementing STEAM into their every day lives by utilizing the coding Robots and circuit boards. The Acer Chromebooks will help students with a 1:1 setting and open up so many technological avenues in teaching. We are a few shy for each student and only need a couple more. Students can create and build their own video games using the Bloxels which will incorporate technology into my classroom as a start. A 3D "Doodle" pen will also peak interests of students that want their illustrations and sketches to come alive.
We plan to go full STEAM ahead!
I want to create an environment where students can feel at home while creating their ideas and dreams. I want to also use these materials to implement a Growth Mindset. I want my students to try, experiment, create, build, and fail to learn that mistakes happen so they can persevere. Students who think and use a growth mindset versus a fixed mindset, will succeed not only in the classroom but in life. These materials listed in my Donor Choose will significantly help my students succeed in areas since most of them will not have access to them at home.
