Help me give my students the tools to learn more about the Social Emotional side of learning by reading books about feelings, earning incentive tags to recognize their kindness, and to allow them to write about their feelings.
Successful learning starts with the students. My students learn from the beginning of the year about perseverance and what it looks like in the classroom. They have a zest for learning and very often I can see "the light bulb" go on for many of my students when they understand something. It is what drives me to work harder for them. They know that they shouldn't let the fact that they are inner city kids hold them back, but that it will only be a bigger force to drive them to work harder. I get them to understand that reaching out to the community partners around us is important in making connections and to get others' help. It really makes a difference to see them succeed after knowing they worked hard to get there!
My Project
My students will be able to tap into their inner feelings and help others to express themselves in an atmosphere that is safe and welcoming. They will feel comfortable to open themselves up to being empathetic to others by playing the board game, matching the situation cards, hearing stories about expressing feelings, and they will get recognized for their efforts.
My hope is that each student will work to be the best version of themselves they can be!
It is much easier sharing your thoughts when you know others are doing it with you. This will also transfer into allowing students to focus on their academics without having heavy thoughts on their minds about other issues going on in their lives.
