My Students
My second grade students are diverse in culture, ethnicity, enthusiasm toward reading, and energy levels. My second graders come from varied backgrounds, have different levels of previous knowledge, and have different levels of motivation for reading and for academics in general. As a school, we're at 40% free/reduced lunch. I have a high energy group that has a strong will to learn and a curiosity about how things work. I am asking for Read Alouds and Mentor Texts to expand my students' higher order thinking while adhering to our curriculum.
My Project
This year I am making it my goal to make our curriculum more exciting. These mentor texts that I am requesting can take our curriculum to the next level. These texts are full of vibrant illustrations to enhance my students' visual understanding of our standards.
The growth mindset texts that I am requesting can enhance my students' understanding that they can learn and achieve anything in life. We've been working on being proactive and using positive words in our classroom. We don't believe in "I can't" and I would like to own more books and put more books in my classroom library that have that point of view.
