My Students

My students are energetic, eager to learn, fabulous first graders. My school is a school-wide Title I school, where all students receive free breakfast and lunch due to our high population of children living in poverty.

Although my students face challenges in their young lives, they are still passionate about learning and doing their best in school.

Seeing their excitement for learning makes me want to do all I can to give them the best learning resources. Their excitement for learning is contagious!

My Project

The Words I Use When I Write books will be used to help students grow and feel confident as we start to write independently in first grade. There are so many words in our language that do not follow the rules. It can make the task of writing more difficult when some words cannot be sounded out to spell. Students come to first grade as emergent spellers. It is nice to have a resource to spell words frequently used in writing. This tool will make writing not feel like such a daunting task.

All students have a story to tell.

I want them to use Words I Use When I write to confidently share their stories with the classroom and the world.
