My Students

We are in a wonderful neighborhood in Garland, TX with unique students in all stages of learning. They love working in centers and having the ability to work on the classroom rug in the reading library. Whether it’s reading about The Magic Treehouse or just working through a picture book, they love being able to have the freedom and independence of choice from the classroom library! We are a wonderfully diverse classroom and whether it’s the gifted and talented students in my classroom or each of my other very unique

My Project

Reading, whether it be independent reading or shared reading, read aloud or guided reading has become a crucial part of teaching in my first grade classroom. Each student has different interests and reading levels which is the main reason for the extensive range of reading materials. In our classroom, we would like to have an entire section dedicated to reading with the exciting idea that each student has constant access to these wonderful materials. The best part of the materials will be creating a designated space to use as a reading section and have both read aloud a, shared reading and independent reading in one area! Giving them a chance to explore in a reading corner that is geared towards introducing them to new levels of reading, new ideas, and strong responsibility for organization will grow not only their mind but motivate them to care for the classroom library and push to increase their reading level in order to enjoy higher level books! Adding this classroom library will be extremely important to my students and their learning journey for years to come.
