My second grade students are a bright and vibrant bunch. I work at a public school in the city of Charlotte, North Carolina. Our school serves students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade. The students at our school have a 99% rate of being on either free or reduced lunch. My students face a variety of personal challenges but have the opportunity to pave their own pathways through the avenue of their education. They are very loving and are extremely excited about school and learning. Help plant seeds to inspire their excitement and passion for learning.
As my students work hard to grow in their reading, they need access to high quality chapter books that they enjoy reading. Not only is it vitally important that they have access to chapter books, but they also need to see reflections of themselves in what they are reading. This project will enable my students a wider variety of choices in our classroom library, particularly to those students who are rapidly advancing in their reading skills. We all can remember the first chapter book series that really hooked our love of reading as a child. You can help to ignite a spark in one of our students' love of reading.
