My Students

My students are beautiful, positive learners looking for a safe place to grow. I work with students one-on-one and in small groups to help them grow socially and emotionally.

As the safe place in an unsettled world, my office is sometimes the only place my students can open up about their lives.

Many of the students I work with are facing so many obstacles and challenges on top of the usual stressors of childhood. As the only counselor in a Title I school, I am always looking for ways to support my students in all areas of development.

My Project

Literature provides an amazing opportunity for all of us to learn and grow. With these novels, I will be able to work with small groups of students on topics of social development such as bullying, friendships, anger and overcoming fear. By discussing these topics in the safety of small groups, students have the security of challenging their understandings, practicing new skills and exploring how their behaviors can change because of their new understanding.

Book groups are a fun way to read a novel together!

The discussions about the book allow students to see different points of views of the characters and the actions. So we aren’t just understanding what happens in the novels, we are looking for ways we grow from reading the novel!
