This project will focus on students from a large urban district who are very active, curious, and intelligent. The students here come from a wide range of communities that represent the city the school is located in very well. The school feels very welcoming. I know I felt that the first day I entered the building, and many families, visitors and students say their experience is similar.
Our neighborhood community supports our school in many ways from financial support to volunteering, but for many families supporting projects financially is difficult.
Many parents are very involved with their students' academic, athletic, and social interests at the school. As a department, we do our best to try to make science come alive by building partnership, offering unique curriculum, and supporting student inquiry.
The full spectrum LED Grow Light will allow us to grow strawberries in our classroom. We will utilize water from our fish tank to help fertilize the plants, closing the loop and making our tank more sustainable. The dual switch will help the plants be more productive from a berry producing perspective.
Students want to be able to see and touch the natural world that is happening around them.
This project will bring that into our classroom where outdoors are frozen at this time of year. Students love to eat strawberries so that connection of growing a food they love right in front of them is very exciting.
