Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We are located in an urban area of New Jersey, which has been described by the media as "the poorest city in the U.S." and "the most dangerous city in America." A full ninety-six percent of our students are classified as "economically disadvantaged"; sixteen percent have special needs.
I am a self-contained, special education teacher and this year I am teaching a wonderful group of fifth through seventh grade students.
My students range from nine years old to thirteen years old. All students have their own special education IEP with goals that need to be met by year's end. These science experiment kits will most definitely help "fill the gap," with their reading, as these kits will allow students to read directions, follow instructions and "team build," with their classmates.
I am a strong believer that when children are excited about school the result is always a POSITIVE outcome. These science experiment kits will add excitement to our growing science center, as well as foster a love of science and the world around us!! Creating "hands on," experiments will not only create collaboration amongst my class but will create memories to last a life time!!!!
Science is so very important in life, and I will do anything to make sure my students are prepared for life.
