Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Remember when your interest was first sparked about a particular topic from a non-fiction book? Or when you fell in a love with an author or book series? Now is the time to pass that passion on to a child!
Our students are in NYC and have many opportunities to learn about the world around them. We want to expand this experience for our students through the magical books of Gail Gibbons and fantastic non-fiction author. Also, we want them to get to know a character in depth. We selected Arthur, Curious George, and Clifford as characters to know well.
My Project
We have modified our upcoming curriculum to create a literature rich day. We have taken into consideration our students interests so we can cultivate a love of reading. We will be providing students with a chance to explore both fiction and non-fiction among other genres, such as poetry and fairy tales.
This donation will help us to hit the ground running as we dive into fictional books at the beginning of the school year. Also, we included a request for the teacher guide book GROWING READERS to help us implement these in the best possible way.
