My students need individual book pouches to store their independent reading books. they also need a functioning listening station that can play both cds and cassettes along with some new nonfiction listening center books.
My students are eager to learn and ready to grow as readers in the classroom. I work in a low income district and have a diverse student population. Unfortunately many children do not have access to books or the pleasure of hearing many wonderful stories. My job is to share my love of reading with them and watch them grow. Our classroom library is full of many different genres and levels to engage all students. Through this project I would love to allow my students to have the opportunity to become more fluent and confident readers in the classroom. Many students have not yet fully understand the magic of reading. I am amazed with smiles when they discover that they are real readers! They can not wait to share their excitement. I love watching them grow as readers and become more confident in their abilities.
My Project
By donating to this project you will allow the students build their fluency skills by using the listening station, gain independence by learning to care for books that they choose and expose them to the nonfiction genre. Using the cassette player and headphones, hearing a book read on tape can help children focus on the sounds of words read without interruption and provides a model of fluent reading. Many books on tape have interesting sound effects, music, and multiple narrators that are especially motivating and fun for young children. Students will also grow in their understanding of the nonfiction genre with the new books and cds. Also students will feel ownership and pride in having their own book pouches to store their independent reading books each week after book shopping in the classroom library.
