My students need access to great books-kids who have access to great books become readers. There is nothing that makes teaching reading easier, gets kids reading volumes, or lifts reading skills than a collection of fabulous books.
Our school serves students in grades TK-5 and provides rigorous academics, has dedicated teachers, and a safe learning environment. Our community including staff and parents are devoted to providing an environment that challenges and promotes each child’s intellectual, social, physical, and creative potential. This allows us to be one of the top-performing schools in our district.
Our goal is prepare ALL students to reach high levels of academic achievement, that being college level education or higher.
The community embraces its ethnically and economically diverse populations. And, multilingualism is a valued and prevalent trait of the community.
My Project
Reading is everything! The research on reading achievement has shown, without a doubt, that reading achievement is directly linked to overall academic achievement. The amount children are reading and the variety of what they read is directly linked to, not just reading achievement, but students academic achievement. That's why it is so important to give students, especially struggling readers, access to quality, high interest books.
Your generous donation to my project will provide struggling readers access to high interest books that will support their volume of reading and attitudes toward reading.
The books will be used in small group reading groups. Students' love for reading will improve as students see their reading muscle grow stronger and stronger. Students will read books with a teacher, partner, and families, extending the connection of reading from school to home.
