Growing Readers With Roots of Diversity

My Project

Annually, our school participates in a whole school reading event in conjunction with the National African American Read In Day. In late February and early March, we hold a whole school "read in." This event is called Read Your Heart Out.

This project will allow our entire school of scholars to read one book called Jayden's Impossible Garden.

We will create a school wide bulletin board and create a "book garden" in our school library based on this book and others selected in this grant.

This project offers our scholars two types of representation needed in curriculum: stories in which they can learn about others (windows) and stories in which they can see themselves (mirrors).
