Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I service a total of approximately 40 first graders who come from low-income households. My students all come from different backgrounds and carry different weight on their shoulders. Since some of my students face difficult situations at home, I try to make my classroom a fun, warm, and loving environment. Most of my students struggle with having a motivation to read. With fun, exciting, new books my students can become engaged with reading during read alouds and independent reading.
My Project
These books will be used in the classroom for both shared reading and read alouds. With shared reading students are able to see real ways to solve tricky words. The teacher will cover parts of words and have the students help identify the unknown word. This helps the students when reading their leveled books during independent reading time. With read alouds the books will be read to the students out loud. The teacher will use drama in her voice to bring the story to life. The teacher will also stop and ask questions. This is great to help the students with their comprehension.
